Select the terrain surface icon. Make sure brush mode is on paint. Put edit mode on both. Slide the size bar right or left to adjust the size of the red circle and and ajust the strength.(this will adjust how fast you edit the terrain). Hold right click on your mouse to lowe the terrain and left to raise it. Do this until you have your lake bed.

Next lets put the texture that will be on the lake bottom. If you have more then one layer on the map where you are going to put the lake, you need to remove them until you are down to your original layer(the one that said dummy). To do this simply select the texture you want removed and right click on the map where you want it removed. Now under the terrain texturing select one of the spots named undefined and give it a name. I chose to name mine underlake. Choose your first and second texture. For the lake bottom I would suggest making them both the same click the green button to apply.

Paint your lake bottom. Hold left click to add the new texture and right click to remove what you don't want. You can adjust the size of the circle and the strength of it.

Ready for some water? Click on the water tools and scroll down to where it says water.

Go into navigation mode and move to the center of your lake. Click the "send to camera" buttom. This will give the x and z coordinates for your lake.

Go back to navigation mode and move your view until you get it to where you want the top of the lake to be. This will be your Y coordinate. Look on the bottom of the editor and it will show the Y coordinate. Put this number where it says height.

Now change the name to something like "lake" and then click the ... to choose the type of water you want.

Click add water and your lake will appear. If the lake is to low or if it is to high don't panic. You can adjust it with the arrows on the right of height.

Now when you are creating your profile you can select trout as one of the prey animals and they will be swimming in your lake.
