Adding Trees In Certain Areas

Tutorial provided by:  Tom2008

Most people know the normal way to place trees. Just go to Object Creator and make a child object for the tree and type in how many trees you want. Then hit apply. Well there is a way to put trees where you want them to be. It is quite simple and I will explain it for you. You have to use some kind of paint program. What I do is make my PNG files in Paint and then save them to my desktop. After that I open it up with Paint Shop Pro so I can make them work in the map editor. You can make them with any Paint program I just choose to make them with Paint first.

Part One: Making the File

1. First off decide where you want your trees. You will be using 2 colors to show where you want trees and where you don't.

2. White shows where trees will go. Black shows where trees won't be.

3. Here is an example of a PNG file I made with the Paint Program that comes with every computer. When naming a file you can name it whatever you want. If you try to make a .PNG file for your trees in Paint they will not work. For some reason when you save it as a .PNG and try to open it in the editor you get an error message and it closes your editor. So you must have Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, or some other Picture Editing Program to save the file as a proper .PNG filePU

4. Ok after you save the file you have to open it up in some kind of Paint Program that will merge all the layers of the picture and greyscale it.

5. Once you do this Re-Size the picture so it is 640x640

6. Now save it to your map folder and make sure you make it a .PNG file.

Part 2: Laying trees down with your .PNG file.

Ok now we gotta put it in your map so we can lay trees down in the area you want them to be in.

1. Click on the objects button shaped like a cube.

2. Under Object Types click add new.

3. Click edit file name and load in the trees you want.

4. Make sure you uncheck Align to Ground Normal so your trees stad up straight on hills.

5. Put in a name for your tree and then click the green arrow.

6. Now go down to Object Creator.

7. Click on the name of the object you just created and hit the green button with a star on it to the right.

8. It should say Child Object below the name of your tree click that.

Ok now click edit. It is below the gray and white picture.

9. A new window should pop up. Where it says fractal click the drop down arrow and click on bitmap. Then click the button with 3 dots on it and browse for you file. Once you find it click open and make sure it shows the picture. If it does then click ok.

10. Now just choose how many trees you want to load in the area and click apply.

11. Now your set and you placed trees where you wanted to. If you want other trees in certain ares on your map just repeat everything you just did.
